Alternate Nostril Breathing

Simply by practising a few rounds of alternate nostril breathing (pranayama) for a few minutes each day, you can help restore imbalances in your brain –improve sleep – calm your emotional state – boost your thinking – calm your nervous system.

Another interesting fact about your nostrils, is that you don’t breathe through them equally all the time. Right now, you will be favouring either your left nostril or your right nostril. Left nostril for calming – right nostril for energy:

Your nose is directly linked to your brain and nervous system. For thousands of years the Indian yogis believe that many diseases are connected to disturbed nasal breathing.

Breathing in through your left nostril will access the right “feeling” hemisphere of your brain, and breathing in through your right nostril, will access the left “thinking” hemisphere of your brain.

Consciously alternating your breath between either nostril will allow you to activate and access your whole brain.

I believe alternate nostril breathing is up there, as one of the most therapeutic calming rituals. It’s the very reason I include it at all my Meditation classes and workshops.

It profoundly helps to settle, cool, calm and nourish an agitated mind and wired nervous system. Even after only two minutes you can feel and notice a distinct difference as to how you feel.

12 benefits of alternate nostril breathing

Revitalizes you:

A few rounds of alternate nostril breathing is a quick pick me up if you are feeling flat, tired or even stressed. It provides your body with a much needed dose of extra energy.

Improves brain function:

When you mind is dull – concentration and clarity is poor. Alternate nostril breathing brings equal amounts of oxygen to both sides of the brain for improved brain function. Five minutes of alternate nostril breathing before an exam or interview is a great way to access your whole brain for improved performance. Remember the brain loses hydration first so drink water as well.

Cleanses your lungs:

A daily five minute practice morning and night of alternate nostril breathing is great way to remove stale air and impurities from the bottom of your lungs.

It wasn’t until I started reading the The Tao of Natural Breathing by Dennis Lewis that I discovered something I did not know. 70% of our body’s waste products are eliminated via our lungs.

Calms an agitated mind:

I’m prone to worrying. A few minutes of focused alternate nostril breathing is helpful (for me) in calming my “over thinking” and “over-doing” mind.

The ancient yogis believe that if you can regulate your breath, then you can control your mind.

Merges the left “thinking” brain and right “feeling brain:

Alternate nostril breathing optimizes both sides of your brain so you can access your whole brain, and all the benefits that go with it.

Try it out next time you need to drive your car. Cover your left nostril with your thumb and breathe only through your right nostril for one minute. This should keep you more alert when driving.

Encourage a calmer emotional state:

In times of emotional distress and upset, a few rounds of mindful nostril breathing will soften the intensity of over reactive emotional states. The longer you practice, the more stable your thinking, and the calmer your emotions will become.

Improves sleep:

If you can’t sleep at night lay on your right hand side, gently close your right nostril with your right thumb and breath through your left nostril. This will activate your parasympathetic nervous system which will calm you down and slow your heart rate. Left nostril breathing is cooling, calming and nourishing for your whole being.

Great preparation for meditation:

Alternate nostril breathing is a simple little trick that can be practiced for a few minutes before you begin yourmeditation practice. It’s a very easy way to help you find your meditation groove.

Soothes your nervous system:

By focusing on your breath and deepening it, your brain will register this message and trigger the parasympathetic nervous system. You have effectively switched your nervous system from a stressed response, into a relaxation response. Single left nostril breathing (by closing your right nostril) will direct the flow of oxygen and energy to the right hemisphere of your brain, allowing once again, for the parasympathetic nervous system to be switched on. Gosh, your breath and nose is very clever.

Regulates the cooling and warming cycles of the body:

Left nostril is feminine, nurturing, calm, receiving and cooling. Right nostril is masculine, heat, competitive, doing, active and force. Favouring one nostril more than the other can effect the heat or coolness of your body.

Clears and boosts your energy channels:

Slightly forced alternate nostril breathing improves and directs the flow of energy throughout your body – preventing sluggishness. It oxygenates your blood and allows the energy (prana) in your body to be strong and flowing.

Enhances rest and relaxation:

A restless mind cannot relax. Alternate nostril breathing melts away an imbalances between the right and left hemisphere of your brain and calms your thinking. This is perfect for helping you access rest and relaxation far more efficiently.

An alternate nostril breathing exercise – purifying breath:
Step one: Use right thumb to close off right nostril.

Step two: Inhale slowly through left nostril

Step three: Pause for a second

Step four: Now close left nostril with ring finger and release thumb off right nostril

Step five: Exhale through your right nostril

Step six: Now, inhale through right nostril

Step seven: Pause

Step eight: Use thumb to close of right nostril

Step nine: Breathe out through left nostril

Step ten: This is one round. Start slowly with 1 or 2 rounds and gradually increase.Never force.Sit quietly for a few moments after you have finished.

There are many, many different techniques of pranayama such as inhaling for 4, holding for 4 and exhaling for 4.

Caution:

Do not hold your breath if you have high blood pressure. More advanced methods of pranayama (alternate nostril breathing) need to be practiced with an experienced practitioner. practicing on an empty stomach is preferred.

Have you ever had that ‘gut feeling’ and wished you had listened to it?

When your ‘Gut’ is out of alignment, your whole physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies are also out of alignment.

While life is easier if we all had 20/20 hind site; we all could have a greater connection with our unconscious mind, otherwise known as our ‘intuition’ or 6th sense.

People are usually very loyal to their daily Kombucha consumption, and consider the drink healthy for a number of reasons, such as:

The G. xylinum bacterium makes up most of the physical structure of the kombucha mother. The kombucha mother is basically a floating piece of fibrous cellulose with these beneficial microorganisms. The presence of the mother is a sign of an active and alive kombucha. No mother is a sign of pasteurization or processing.

Kombucha is loaded with unique nutrients

Kombucha is loaded with organic acids, active enzymes, amino acids and polyphenol anti-oxidants. The most common components include the various organic acids such as acetic acid, butyric acid, usnic acid, oxalic acid, malic acid, gluconic acid and lactic acid. It also contains active enzymes and probiotics.

Kombucha is typically produced in a sweetened green, white or black tea. The best fermentation process uses an organic evaporated cane juice or honey although too much honey can disturb the stability of the culture. Most of the sugar will be remade into organic acids that blunt the blood sugar response so it is very low glycemic and non-inflammatory.

Improves joint function

Kombucha is rich in glucosamines which helps preserve cartilage structure and prevent joint degeneration. Glucosamines increase hyaluronic acid production within the joint which binds moisture thousands of times its weight in the joint cavity. This provides the joint with structure, moisture, lubrication and flexibility while protecting against free radical damage.

Combined with Ginger, this combination is a powerful healing formula for arthritis, inflammation and dickie knees (which is something I personally have). Drinking Kombucha has in only 3 months reduced inflammation and enhanced flexibility and strength. (Much better than a knee replacement).

Kombucha is loaded with probiotic bacteria and yeast that make their way into the gut and ward off parasites and pathogens. It is particularly good at minimizing Candida and improves digestion and nutrient assimilation. Kombucha enhances immunity by inoculating the gut with healthy microorganisms and providing anti-oxidants and enzymes.

Welcome to the Half Way Mark of our busy year! Where is 2016 going?

The Year of Completion is soaring ahead and many of us have been experiencing difficult periods in our personal lives as we ‘Let go’ of what has now come to its full term. The cycle of its natural life has now been completed.

While this sounds mystical and metaphysical; it is a very difficult time in our lives as we adjust to the new energies this completion has brought toward us.

Change is never easy while it is happening, yet, when we look back on our lives, we reflect on the changes that brought us to where we are today. If our life stood still, we wouldn’t achieve our greatest accomplishments and we would continue to live Life in the ‘Grey Zone’. Not happy with our job, relationship, living arrangements, etc., yet not unhappy enough to create the Change necessary to move us forward into more rewarding situations.

So we stay, and complain, and allow our Limiting Beliefs to sabotage our happiness and we continue to put up and all to often shut up.

The KEY to HAPPINESS is to move out of our ‘Grey Zone’ and live the life we were born to Live.

It is now scientifically proven that meditation and hypnosis are the only two techniques that slow the brain down to the optimal Alpha and Theta states where the neural pathways can be rewritten from our negative past to our positive future where we become the ‘Drivers of our own Life’ (At Cause), instead of being the victims at someone else’s control, (At Effect).

The Grey Zone

The most dangerous place to be is surviving your life in the Grey Zone.

You are not living,

You are not happy, passionate, inspired, motivated, alive and abundant.

BUT! You are not unhappy enough or confident enough to make that stance and take ACTION.

You are just existing in a place of blah!

Of mundane routine, running away from your passion and souls calling because you believed what someone else said about you was true, when you were growing up.

Why continue to give your personal power away to someone you didn’t respect anyway?

Why shrink, just to keep someone else thinking they are bigger than what they are?

Why continue living someone else’s perception of who they think you are?

When you know you are made of different qualities and values, and continue to shrink to keep the ‘so called peace’, and don’t listen to the warning signs of unhappiness, your world starts yelling at you to Stop and Take Notice.

When you continue to ignore the yelling’s and screaming’s of your unconscious mind, and your thoughts spiral into negativity and fear, feeling angry and resentful all of the time, blaming others for making you feel this way. You end up feeling more and more frustrated, unmotivated, and lifeless. This cycle leads unfortunately to ‘Dis-Ease’.

Dis-Ease, begins in the mind, not in the physical body.

As Bruce Lipton once said “Our Thought affect our Emotions and our Emotions affect every cell in our Physical body. This is where dis-ease begins.

If you chose that thought, you have the power of choosing another thought and changing your perception from negative to positive, and count your Blessings instead of feeling like the victim being persecuted.

By repeatedly having this ‘pattern interrupt’, you will re-code your Cells, and bring Healthy active, life and light frequencies into your physical body and you will very soon begin bringing more of this toward you.

ACTION CURES FEAR

Through taking action, you step out of the trappings of the ‘Grey Zone’, and begin to ask yourself just 5 questions:

Who am I?
Who do I want to be remembered as?
What is my contribution to my world and the world of others?
How do I make a difference?
Is my life making me stretch mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually?

Or am I just taking the easy way out and blaming others for manipulating me and forcing me to ‘keep the so called peace’.

True inner peace is when you stand up for your own souls calling and listen to your inner voice; it is not found through outside sources, people or things, it is found deep within you!

CHANGE

Be bold! Speak the truth

It takes courage to stand up against the masses, and hold a different perspective on how we see what’s currently happening in our world.
Standing up, often alone, and speaking our truth is a vulnerable place to come from, as the masses tend to brand us conspiracy theorists or the crazy ones.

We feel the depth of loneliness, discrimination and judgement, much likened to how I imagine Jesus felt when he carried his own heavy cross on his back, with only a cloth tied around his hips, bare feet, blood dripping down his face as he courageously wore his crown of thorns.

He could have put down his cross and taken the easier path, especially when he was betrayed by his friend, however, he chose to keep his faith and align to his truth, and no throwing of rotten tomatoes, or being spat on, would get him to relinquish his truth.

I’m feeling a rising of Christ Consciousness, a power deep within us, seeking our own truth and acknowledging our freedom to choose what we put into our minds and our bodies.

We cannot accept this current political coercion, and are now standing up together, marching on mass, having a voice, and challenging the old draconian methods of control through fear.

The people are reclaiming their power to choose freedom over fear and are now demanding truth to be told, and cannot accept the mass media control of blocking or deleting the truth.

More and more people are beginning to question what’s currently happening, as a political agenda of elitist proportions where money and power deems it ok to bring fear and coercion into our world.

 

Four Pillars of Healing needed to create Positive Transformation in our world today.

 

  • Awareness is the first stage of healing – we must become aware, awake, a rising consciousness is needed.
  • Acknowledgement is the second stage of all healing, only happening when truth is accepted and acknowledged as our soul seeks the truth.
  • Acceptance is the third stage – we may not like what’s happening in our world right now; we begin accepting things have to change as we can no longer tolerate our current situation, or lack of personal power, loss of health, our freedom to choose becomes the most important value.
  • Action is the fourth stage, and it’s not just any action, for that creates chaos; it’s divine and intelligent action that heals fear.

Acknowledgement cannot happen without the truth.

The truth cannot happen if people refuse to see it and speak it.

The soul of all Australians, our First Nation People, can only heal when all Australians unite in the power of Soul and unite in Truth.

Healing begins in each of us by first acknowledging there is something to heal. Acknowledgement is beginning and is a part of the reparation journey.

 

Today, no matter where you live, we begin to seek and speak a more true story, it is a start. We could no longer wait for acknowledgement from the Nation as a whole, we had to begin at the level of the individual and organizations who speak the truth and act with kindness and respect with ecology, which is a study of consequences; self to self, self to others, self to society and self to our world.

 

Let us be the ripple effect in our world

The perfect synergy is happening right now, (as I believe there is no such thing as coincidence, that everything is in perfect timing or synchronicity), our footprints are being washed away by the rains, creating a cleansing of energies around our world.

Let the ripples of loving kindness for humanity be the peace we seek and soak up, together in respect for humanity and all sentient beings of light.

Removing The Mask Of Shame

Speaking the truth doesn’t mean you are shaming anyone who isn’t able to ‘yet’ see, hear or feel the truth. It isn’t about discrimination, segregation or judgement, for that is dividing and conquering us from all our families, our loved ones, within our workplace, society and our world.

 

This is about healing with acknowledgement of the truth, even if we don’t know what the truth is right now, we do know things are not adding up right now.

 

Speaking the truth actually creates a spirit of liberation flowing between individuals and groups, where democratic views are safely communicated to create a new dialogue with Cổ creation and community in mind. We need each other. As humans we need deep emotional connection to feel safe, valued and loved.

 

I do honestly feel we are in a spiritual warfare between light and dark. It is essential right now to keep our own energies clean, balanced and aligned and connect to the global consciousness of freedom for humanity and stand up together as one.

  • Wherever possible, stand barefoot on Mother Earth, if you cannot do this physically, just imagine it. Feet shoulder width apart, knees softly bent.
  • Gentle wriggle your toes, lifting your feet up from the inside left, relax, then up from the outside right, relax. Heals up, relax then toes up and relax.
  • Repeat and breathe in through your Nose x4, hold x4, then imagine you are blowing all your worries out through a straw, blowing all your worries away, emptying out.
  • Imagine you are a tree, breathing down from the light of the infinite sun, a silver, white golden column of light, breathe it down through your crown Charkra, all the way down to your Earth Star, connecting and aligning chakras, meridians, auric colours and vibrations.
  • Feel your feet sucking up the earth energies, as you visualise your Earth Star expanding, getting bigger and brighter, connecting to your loved ones, family, friends, neighbours, around your suburb, city, state, country and our world.
  • Imagine your Earth Star so big it encompasses our world, silver white golden light. Then imagine a beautiful magenta light around the outside circle of light, then place a bright blue light in the Center.

 

It is said we are entering the Golden Age where we will live together on Mother Earth with loving kindness for all living beings of light.

It is also said, the energy tipping point from dark into light is only 0.05% of the worlds population, so breathe in your highest light and connect firmly to our earth, walk lightly with loving grace, humility and compassion and most of all, honour and speak your own truth.

Which Wolf Do You Feed: Fear or Faith?

Faced with a crisis, overwhelmed, facing fear! Simple yet powerful healing tools to help you navigate your path through trauma and regain control over your life.

Fear – Face Everything and Respond.
When we are in a state of fear, our survival meter activates our amygdala which increases our flight, flight or freeze reaction time, charging up our adrenaline receptors, increasing our cortisol levels. All of this is fine in small doses, even essential to our survival. Increased adrenal and cortisol levels over an extended period of time may create chronic fatigue, illness and disease. When we are not at ease with our thoughts, we become fearful of our future and live in a state of needing to be in control, which often leads to anxiety, depression and overwhelm that feed the negative wolf in us.

When we panic, we let fear drive it.
Wake up, become meta-aware and meta cognitive, learn to think for yourself and always be authentic to you, instead of constantly chasing happiness outside of us, looking for a quick fix, which is likened to addiction.

We create pictures in our mind based on what we want to experience and achieve, which may be imaginary and either helpful and empowering or delusional and disempowering.

The fear contagion affects everyone and lowers the universal vibration of humanity. Social and Mass Media becomes the local contagion, creating a greater fear that feeds the anxious wolf in us, which is further reinforced by social isolation and the current lock-down we are experiencing. Learn to be a truth seeker and question the social norms and form your own values and moral beliefs based on what is most important to you. Learn to have a rational discourse, and challenge the status quo with intelligent meta-awareness.

Be you, be true to you, be authentically you.

TRUTH with Authenticity, Passion and Intellect is Power.
Be Your own Superhero and know when and how to speak your truth. What we hear and see on most media outlets is not The Truth. The best response is to choose what you allow into your unconscious mind, consciously; meaning, take charge of what you watch, hear and feel.
